How do I do Writing Therapy? Writing Therapy is conducted via the internet, from the privacy of your own home, or any where that you can get on-line. You may, to begin with, communicate only by writing. Later you may feel free to talk with your Counsellor. Is it a new kind of therapy? Although it goes back to the dawn of history, Writing Therapy has developed only very recently. For reasons not yet fully understood, it is proving a valuable aid to managing all sorts of life difficulties, including loss, depression, and emotional, physical, and mental trauma. Thus it is now being used in hospitals to enhance the healing after surgery or sports injuries; and in colleges to teach student self-development. Not only can it help you to become calmer, more focused and more optimistic, it has actually been shown to boost the body’s immune system What Is Writing4Healing? Writing4Healing is a uniquely developed series of programmes, that combine email, chatroom dialogue, and live talk. The Programme t is delivered in a succession of monthly modules that allow you to progress at your own pace and stop at any time. What will I be asked to do? The initial Writing4Healing program lasts for four weeks. You will be asked to complete Questionnaires about yourself, your family and the people important to you. This should enable you and your therapist together to begin to understand the underlying realities of your life. Your answers are used by your therapist to formulate a series of personal writing assignments, usually in the form of letters ( that you write but not send) to people who have been important in your life. What will this do for me? These will not only enhance your insight, -they should certainly reduce your level of tension and confusion. We’re not sure yet quite how it works – but it does. Both the Questions and your Writing Assignments will encourage you to explore beyond your immediate feelings and gain a greater understanding of how you have arrived at this point in your life, and how you can get yourself onto a better path. (You will also be asked to keep a private Journal, because this too helps free you from inner distress and confusion. Keeping a Journal is a self-healing resource you can continue when you have completed the 12 Week Writing4Healing Programme) Can Writing4Healing help me cope with a difficult relationship? Yes, course. It is part of the same process Will I be expected to do any study? Not as such. Writing4Healing is all about expressing your own thoughts and feelings in a way that makes your problems more comprehensible to you. In fact you will discover just how much you already know and understand. I don't know if I have time... Writing4Healing can be fitted into even the busiest of lives. You can work anywhere, at any time. As much as you want. You will find that you think through your answers as you go about your daily life and by the time you sit down to write, you will know just what you want to say. Do I write well enough? The answer to this is always yes. Writing Therapy is about what you say, not how you say it. The act of writing forces you to reflect rather than just react; it forces you to think and thereby understand yourself. But your therapist can put what you write into perspective and give it meaning. It’s the way you grow and take control of your life.
